Looking to adot a goofball? Well, you've found him!Rusty is an adorable medium breed baja mutt. Rescued off the streets of Ensenada Mexico as a stray. We don't know his breed but anyone who likes the 'pointer' breed looks would be interested in him. He looks like he has points but its trully just blended brindle colors. He could be ANY breed. What we know is he is already full grown in the 32-35 pound range. A large dog in a small body. He is such a LOVE bug. He gives the best hugs. He really would be an amazing companion even for new dog owners. He is a young adult in the 1-2yr range becuase he is not a puppy crazy but CAN play like a crazy puppy. We have not taken him to dog parks as he is fostered in casa de arwob which is like being in a doggy day care/dog park with many different size dog breeds/ages/sizes and he is great with all. He is great with dogs. Being a stray he does have some quirks that he likely gained from being shooshed away in the street by people. He can be shy or intimidated at first when meeting people but one baby talk or soft approach and food or toys and you will fast win him over and after that is nothing but hugs and loving. He would be one of those dogs that if he is ever off leash, DO NOT CHASE, let him come to you. He will not venture far, we did an oopsie with him and let him do his thing and left the doors open he came right back. We just don't want strangers approaching him becuase he will be afraid, hence, adopter must have a secured fence. He should not be let off leash until adopter has done dog training classes like any good/responsible dog owner should do.  Rusty is crate and house trained. At least, with a door open to the yard he has not had accidents inside. He does LOVE to chew, but as long as you have toys and benabones around he will chew appropriately, he LOVES to just chill at a bed or outside in the sun and chew on something fun. He loves to romp around with doggos or nap making himself small in the tiniest of balls (so cute!) Rusty likes to grab toys and have dogs chase him around to play keep away, he has tried fetching and bring it back but that is a 50/50 he does it as he is more of a "look what I got, come get it!" type of pup. He is not vocal but when he is in the yard and people walk by too close he will definetely tell you about it and he does have a pretty mighty bark. He does well in car rides. Unfortunately, we have to many dogs at casa de arwob as of 3/15 and one of our rescues does NOT like Rusty. Hence we are hopeful we can find a foster or adopter or even better someone who would like to foster with intent to adopt him so we don't have to send him back to his foster in baja for several reasons. Rusty has had his medical and vetting in san diego and boarded at the vet for the month of february and a whole month in foster in casa de arwob so it would be so sad to have to send him back to baja for lack of space. He has been around cats and although he doesn't seem to have prey drive we would NOT recommend leaving him unsupervised around cats. Sometimes he ignores them but sometimes he just annoys them. He should be a great dog for children too BUT only children who have lived and learned about dogs. 1) becuase of his initial intimidated personality of strange people ei fast movements etc2) becuase he is a bit of a puppy, we are working on his mouthiness when you give him kisses in his nose (which he loves) he can curl his lip and try to do the nip at your face, VERY playfully, he just doesn't know better and he can't treat people the same way he does dogs, so he is improving but for children it could be scary for them (we will post a video of this behavior so sroll through them)We don't hold adoption events but we are happy to schedule meet and greets in the 92110, even before submiting applications if you like BUT in order to foster or adopt you will have to submit an application to start the process. If you just want to meet him before giving us your info that is ok just contact us via email or submit apps ARWOB.org
