Animal Profile: Lily is an estimated 2-year-old 42 lb female Doberman mix who was a stray intake to the overcrowded Caddo Parish shelter in Shreveport Louisiana. She has an awful home crop job on her ears but is beautiful all the same. She was found with a deceased puppy, and taken to the shelter where she was kennelled with another dog. She passed her temperament testing with humans and dogs (male/female) but was at risk for euthanasia due to space; she also had pyometra but has been spayed. She is staying in temp foster care while awaiting foster care and has integrated beautifully with a pack of dogs; she just needs some confidence building! We will share more info as we get to know her in foster care.  Foster Update:  Lily is a highly intelligent, playful and affectionate dog. She picks up on commands & boundaries quickly and she’s very eager to please. She has already learned her name and some basic commands. She is crate trained and will run to her crate if you tell her to “kennel up”. We don’t believe she had spent much time on a leash before she came to us, so we are still working on her leash manners. With some more training, we believe she will be an excellent K9 citizen! Lily is very affectionate - she frequently asks for pets and rolls over for belly rubs. She can happily entertain herself with a toy or stick but will check in with us frequently. She loves running around in the yard, playing fetch and tug-of-war. In the evenings, she settles on her pet cot and stays put if you ask her to.    Lily gets along well with our resident dogs. At times she wants to play with them but she’s also good about respecting their boundaries and isn’t pushy if they’re uninterested in play. We think she would do well with another dog in the home or as an only dog. She’s a little too eager about interacting with cats, so we believe she would do best in a cat-free household. Overall, Lily has been such a joy to have around and we think she will be a wonderful addition to the lucky family that adopts her.  Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $550 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations per AVMA standards, heartworm test if applicable, microchip with registration, and health certificate. Your adoption fee may be tax deductible as DGS is a 501c3 organization.
