MEET SONAMU! Named by one of Pug rescue of Korea's supporters, Sonamu means pine tree in Korean and represents longevity. Which is what all who were involved in rescuing her along with 7 other pugs in a horrible puppy mill wish for her. Sonamu has already come so far in the few short months that have passed since she was given freedom from the inhumane conditions she was raised in. Starting in Korea with her angel Kim where she was so fearful and shy, Kim was the first person to show her what human love and compassion look like. After flying all the way from Korea to NYC with her partner Jet, Sonamu is making strides day after day, she is a very brave little girl. Sonamu is a 2yo sweet girl who is looking for someone willing to provide a peaceful environment where she can continue to thrive and come even further out of her shell to flourish. She is quite the snuggler,  being the typical Velcro pug as evidenced by not leaving her foster Dad's side. Very friendly with all humans we think she will do best in a quiet household as she can still be startled by loud noises. She has done well with children but would be best with older children that are respectful of her need for a peaceful environment. (she is getting better with this every day!). Absolutely no issues with cats, Sonamu shows almost no interest in the cat in her foster home. She can do well with another dog but preferably one that isn't high energy and enjoys a friend who would like to snuggle at bed time. Being an only dog will be fine for her too as long as someone is home more often than not. Sonamu is overall lower energy and would rather just relax on the couch with her preferred human. She doesn’t really know what walks mean, but she still has a lot to learn about being a dog. Slow introduction will be beneficial for this girl and come summertime she may just learn what fun exploring new places can be. A fenced back yard for her is recommended as she does get the occasional burst of zoomies outside on nice days. She is not a fan of the rain or snow, some things are just genetic! Sonamu is in oveall good health. She does require twice daily eye drops and does very well receiving them. She has an atrophied left eye with no vision. She will need eye medication (Optimmune) to both eyes twice daily for life, with follow ups to ensure appropriate treatment. Cost for the medication is approximately 70 per tube which should last 4-6 weeks. While in Korea, Sonamu had 3 interdigital cysts removed from her paws. She required some follow up antibiotics here in the states, but has responded well to those along with foot soaks. These cysts can return, so she will need to be monitored in the future.   Sonamu is a very sweet gentle girl who just loves a good snuggle and blanket. Learning how to be more of a dog every day, there is still so much for her to experience. We have enjoyed watching her progress in foster care and look forward to learning about all of her firsts once she finds that wonderful forever home who will show her what love, affection and adoration are all about. She will return it 10-fold in the form of cuddles, affection and staying by her person's side. This is her love language. Sonamu loves food and is easily motivated by it and will try to push her way into to eat her fosters brother's food if given the chance. Extremely easy going but she does have a mischievous side. Small objects like children's toys should be kept out of reach as she does like to steal them. For safety's sake, she is crated when someone is not home and at bedtime (although we believe she would love to sleep in bed with her humans if given the chance) She has adjusted extremely well to potty training and is almost 100% house broken, which we think is amazing!  Following a schedule for her is key but an adjustment period should be expected in a new home. Her foster home does keep a pee pee pad down just in case and she has figured out how to use it in an emergency. Sonamu is not a fan of the cold at all so a sweater to go outside is important and also patience will be important if she does not go potty when she's outside on cold days. Sonamu needs someone who will continue to work with her at gaining confidence and feeling secure. What lucky family will get to experience true rescue as Sonamu grows and experiences new adventures? Like her namesake, the sky's the limit! Sonamu's adoption requirements Fenced yard so she can enjoy the freedom to explore and run around safely accompanied by her person Respectful children aged 12 and older Cats ok. Docile canine companion ok too. Sonamu can be an only pet and enjoy being the center of her families world, but she should not have prolonged periods of alone time. She thrives in the company of her humans, which given what humas have done to her in the past, is quite miraculous. We want her to have the comfort and security of the companionship she desires.  Continued work on loose leash training Must remain patient and supportive, providing for a peaceful protected environment as she continues to grow into her best life Twice daily eye medications both eyes- $70/month Must commit to lifetime medical care including annual well visits and monthly flea, tick and heartworm prevention.     Sonamu's Adoption Fee $1250.00  Based on age $750.00 + $500.00 international transportation fee = $1250.00 If you are interested in adopting Sonamu and feel you could offer her the wonderful life she deserves, please complete and application! If you have already completed our application in the last 6 months and would like to alert our adoption team of your interest in Sonamu, you can complete our Approved/In Process Form.
